Very few examples of this type exist, and information about their meaning and usage is similarly scant. An undated attribution from the Museum of Vanvouver, which has an important but small group of Igbo knives collected by Captain James Harold Dyer between 1902 and 1909, states: carried by active males - associated with ceremonial regalia of chiefs (K. Nicklin, R. Lagos Museum).
