Sickle Knife
Makere / Popoi / Meje, D.R. Congo
Iron, ivory
Early 20th century
This sickle knife was made by a southwestern Mangbetu-related culture such as the Makere, Popoi, or Meje. The dull edges, ivory handle, and useless spur indicate that it was purely a presige object (Elsen, Jan. Tribal Arms Monographs, Vol 1., 1996).
This sickle knife was published in Tribal Arms Monographs, Vol 1, plate 66.
