Certainly a product of Western exposure, this piece isn't associated with any traditional form, and could be the work of any number of West African cultures. However, the trigger here is composed of leather-wrapped iron, and this kind of hidden personal detail, something of a secret talisman, is what is often found on African pieces that were considered by their owner to be significant and powerful.
