Iron, wood, copper
Early 20th century
The Ngbandi or Sango are a South Sudanese culture from Central Africa living primarily in the Central African Republic and the D.R. Congo. In Central Africa they are usually called Sango when speaking Sango and Yakoma when speaking Ngbandi or Yakoma. The Ngbandi belong to a group of peoples of the river, which is indicated by the meaning of "Mong Bandi" : "people of the water."
Wealthy noblemen usually walked with a zágà or ndimba spear in hand. The ndimba was known as a ferocious spear with a long blackened blade that could pierce shields. The iron wrap on the shaft was known as kùnga and the carved wood handle was known as le kongo or nyo kongo (Wiethase, Bows, Arrows, and Spears of Africa, 2022).
