Prestige Blade Inspired by a Throwing Knife
Ingessana / Nuba, Sudan
Iron, crocodile, textile, vegetal fiber, leather
20th century
Westerdijk identifies this throwing knife-inspired type as coming from the Kreish; Lefebvre attrributes it to the Fur. These Sudanese cultures are not far away from the Ingessana and Nuba of Sudan, from whom I believe this piece originates. The distinctive traits this piece shares with Ingessana symbolic throwing blades are: incising on both sides of a throwing blade and zig-zag animal tracks incised on both sides of the stem of a throwing blade. These traits cannot be found on Kreish or Fur throwing blades.
