This origin of this heavy silver bracelet begins in Austria, where silver Maria Theresa coins were made. Known as Maria Theresa Thaler (MTT), these Austrian silver coins were traded as currency in north Africa, especially in Ethiopia.
This bracelet is made from melted Maria Theresa coins, yet wears incision marks that clearly define its origin in the Darfur region of Sudan - compare the incisions to the Fur blade posted below.
