Swords of this type were ceremonial objects for the Ogun cult of the Yoruba, used by blacksmiths, hunters, and others (Zirngibl & Kubetz, Panga Na Visu, 2009).

This example is composed of a solid piece of brass; the large incised lizard and faceted handle are uncommon, fine details.
