Small Sickle Blade Magia
Banda/Dakpa/Langbase/Mbugbu/Ngapu/ Togbo/Wada/Yakpa, C.A. Republic/D.R. Congo
Forged iron, wood
Early 20th century
The Banda were creative and prolific producers of knives, perhaps more so than any other group in Africa. This boomerang-shaped knife is expertly incised with the minutest details. This knife type was used by women as a ceremonial dance implement, and also as a status symbol for the elite (Elsen, The Sickle Weapons Part 1, 1996).
