This ceremonial axe of the Kuba, known as ikyengé, is well balanced and elegant in shape. It was the prerogative of prestigious dignitaries known as kolm (Elsen, De Fer et De fierté, 2003).
The ironwork on this piece is exceptional, with braided twisted iron strands.
