Accuracy vs. Ratings: The History Channel Forges a Double-Edged Sword

The History Channel’s series “Forged In Fire” has produced a number of episodes that focus on African blades. The show involves asking a group of individual amateur blacksmiths to recreate traditional iron weapons. Although the show was clearly conceived to educate its viewers about these unfamiliar objects, the History Channel demonstrates an unfortunate tendency towards distortion, exaggeration and sadly, flat out misinformation.
